Hey Y’All.
Well, here we are on our own with a whole lotta uncertainty and fear swirling around us, not to mention certain novel viruses. But if you can breathe, and are breathing as you read this, start right here.
Notice your breath.
The inhale. Maybe pause a beat. Notice the exhale.
Do that some more.
Notice. Your. Breath.
Notice that? Something you can control. Or not. Either way, breath happens. Unlike so many other things life, we can control the breath. So when you feel like it’s (whatever IT is for you in any given moment) overwhelming you, unraveling you, freaking you the f!ck out, try this:
Inhale for a count of four.
Hold at the top for a count of four.
Exhale for a count of four.
Hold at the bottom for a count of four.
Repeat.
Keep repeating for however long you need to, and maybe increase the count to six. Then breathe freely and know that we’ll be doing that same four-part (maybe even six-part) breath frequently, so there’s a good chance we’ll be doing it together over the #socialdistance. That makes us feel better already, hope it does you too.
We’ll share more yogic breath techniques, meditations and asanas as the days go by so you’ll have new ones to explore. Stay tuned, stay calm and be kind.
